How To Write Good by Ryan Higa - My Favorite Book

The book is a biography, and it starts off with telling us that the book is actually an autobiography and not a book about how to write, and that is actually the title because it is the way he is referring to the fact that the publishing company had hired a ghostwriter, who told him how to write, and that basically makes the whole first chapter. The second chapter is when the story starts off, from the beginning of his life until the end, or from when he was a kid until almost when he is at when writing the book. He starts off with describing his early life in the first three chapters with comparing his mom to a stereotyped Asian mom, since he is a comedian, and is Asian American, and also the fact that he had ADHD. He refers to the stereotype that Asian parents like to put their kids in many activities, and compares it with the fact that when he was in kindergarten his mom said he should join a team sport and a martial art, and says he picked basketball and Judo since that is what his older brother was doing. After that, he comes to the story of when his kindergarten teacher spoke about how he behaved towards other kids, and how he was like an old man in the body of a little kid. After that, he goes to the part where he is done with elementary school, and he thought he was going to middle school, and his mom told him that she did not like the middle school that his friends were going to, as to the past experiences his brother had, and she had decided to send him to a charter school. He told stories of how he had to take a placement test when going to the charter school, and he ended up scoring well on it, which led to him being put a grade higher. He initially thought he would be popular when placed a grade higher, but it was actually the opposite. Everybody was older than him, and in the process, everybody started bullying him, and out of them there was this one kid who picked on him to the point at which he called him by racial slurs, like "Chink Boy". He tried to persuade his mom into moving him to another school initially, but she always won and after that, he did tell her he was getting bullied, which led to her complaining to the principal, who did try to change things, but it actually just led to him getting bullied more. Finally, this ended up in him figuring out that the bully was trying to entertain people and make them laugh, which led to him trying to be the class clown and entertain people. He finally did conquer the bully, and what else happened was that he ended up liking to entertaining people, and started making weekly comedy videos with his mom's camcorder, which he would show his family. When he went to high school, he ended up going back to his neighborhood high school, but the thing was that everybody had friend groups which they had made in middle school, and he ended up losing all of his friends until he joined the wrestling team. He described joining the wrestling team as an unbeatable experience for his situation, and how he made many friends.

Oscilators: The Device That Times Everything In Our Computers

Initially computing devices or computers as we call them today, were devices that would help solve math problems and calculate time. Examples of the first computing devices were the clocks ancient civilizations used and the abacus, which was used to do basic math, and while it's cool to see these are devices, it was only during the industrial revolution in the 1800s mechanical calculators and mechanical devices came around for their first time. In the mid-1800s, British mathematician, Charles Babbage tried to make a programmable calculator, though he failed with the only power available at the moment being steam prover. In 1896, American inventor Herman Hollerith expanded and fulfilled Babbage’s invention, when he brought about punch cards. Punch cards allowed people to program computers to perform specific tasks for humans. In the 1940s the first computer known as ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator And Computer) was built at the University of Pennsylvania as part of a secret military project known as Project X, and by the 1950s Project X became something available to the public. Computers run on used parts like transistors, capacitors, and resistors. These parts were eventually fitted into integrated circuits, later leading to the first microprocessor, which Intel made in the 1970s. As many devices like these have come about, we can today divide devices into 2 different categories, ones that require human function and ones that don’t and are timed with their own timing device. Devices like clocks require human function while devices like smartphones have a timing device within them.

Devices that are timed by humans can run at a max of 60hz, which is not a lot, and for this reason computers are timed using a clock, also known as an oscillator. An oscillator circuit is a circuit which produces continuous repeated signals to control waveform, allowing people to just time a device and then have it run on its own .These digital clocks allow for more control, as they allow devices to run on their own.. These timing devices must be carefully controlled at times, for example, a computer controlled the last 7 minutes of the mars rover landing and it had to be precisely timed to be successful. A way to understand how an oscillator works is comparing it to the autopilot of a tesla or a plane, give cars and planes on autopilot just run as their commands are given, and the thing is autopilot is something which probably runs on an oscillator, give it needs to process fast. Overall, having a circuit which time itself has made a big impact on our world, give without it computers would process at much slower speeds than they do now, not allowing us to do most of the tasks we do today.

Why the government should not impose rules like COPPA on YouTube

YouTube, a video-sharing website created by two former pay pal employees in 2006 is currently at its pinnacle, with 5 billion videos being watched every day and 300 hours of video being uploaded every minute. YouTube has become a place where people can get famous with fewer resources than ever before, for example, 30-year-old Felix Kjellberg also known as Pew Die Pie has attained over 100 million fans by posting videos of him playing video games from his bedroom. Pew Die Pie is self-made, gaining fame without any of the expensive resources you needed back in the day. Pew Die Pie is simply one of the many YouTubers who are taking over content consumption, but the US government has recently passed a law known as COPPA (Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act), not allowing personalized ads on kids content, as well as requiring creators to choose if a video is kids friendly or not, with kids being anybody under the age of 13. If you are caught violating this rule when you claim that supposed kids content that you've made is not for kids or vice versa, you are fined a large sum of $42,000. Many of you may think a rule like this is simply a way to protect kids online, but there are many better ways to protect kids online. To start, the definition of what content is ok for kids is something that differs from parent to parent, making the idea of being fined for considering your content as not kid-friendly, when it's kid-friendly does not make sense. Many gamers play kids video games like Minecraft, even though their commentary is not kid-friendly, as they appeal to teenagers who play the same video game. Continuing with the teenager demographics, many of the most popular YouTubers typically have demographics of kids in middle school and high school, with many 12-year-olds, who will miss out on their favorite YouTubers. You could solve the problem by having a rating system like the ESRB ratings for video games, where there is the E 10+ rating, that has mild violence compared to E rated games having no violence and T-Rated games having more realistic violence. Some of you may agree with the FCC on their penalty, given videos that are not made for kids do make more ad revenue with personalized ads, but at the same time, $48,000 is a lot of money, especially for small creators who barely make any money, with 81% of parents not caring whether their kids watching personalized ads, making it something that is not a big deal. At the same time, personalized ads function as a monetary incentive for creators to make more money which they invest in their content. leading money-driven content creators to stop making kid-friendly content, resulting in a lack of content for kids, as a mom of 5 kids says "This is being done in the name of protecting children's privacy from personalized ads. I'm a mom of five kids, I care about kids' online safety, privacy, and protection, but this regulation is doing more harm than good,". For the parents who don't want their kids watching inappropriate content or getting personalized ads when youtube has an app known as youtube kids filtering and not allowing kids to see all YouTube content that is not kid-appropriate. The app even has parent controls, so parents know what content their kids are watching and can also be able to lock or unlock certain content. With this existing, you can also get rid of personalized ads specifically on this app, and keep personalized ads on normal YouTube. This will result in kid's content having personalized ads on regular YouTube, making family-friendly creators a little bit more money. Overall, COPPA is a regulation set by the FCC which is way too vague, making it something hard to comply with, as well as making negligible changes to kids online safety, given 81% of parents don't care about their kids having personalized ads and a mom of 5 kids believes it hurts Youtube more than help. Rating content for kids and not for kids is way too vague, especially for adult gamers that make content based on kids' games that are intended for teenagers. As a content creator, myself, the $42,000 fine for an unintentional violation is something that I consider too much and also threatening to my freedom of speech when I create content.

American Airlines Launches Flights From Seattle to Bengaluru

Source: airlinesfleet.com
As of as a recently as yesterday, the worlds biggest airline, Dallas based carrier, American Airlines made a partnership with the Seattle based carrier, Alaska Airlines, which has led to Alaska Airlines being a part of the one world alliance, and the two carriers making a joint venture in the west coast. Alaska Airlines at the moment is well invested in its hub in Seattle, flying mostly to cities on the west coast, while American is well invested in Los Angeles, as it offers more international flights from LAX than United Airlines and Delta. Overall, this seems like a good partnership, as Alaska Airlines is also invested in Los Angeles after they have taken over Virgin America.

As a result of this partnership, American Airlines has decided to invest more in Seattle as a connection hub, as they plan to make it another hub where they can help Alaska Airlines with long haul international flights. The first of these flights, for now, is going to be a nonstop flight from Seattle to Banglore, which will be the only flight from North America to the southern part of India, as well as the second flight route from the west coast to India, with the only other one being San Fransisco to Delhi, which is operated by United Airlines and Air India.

The aircraft for this flight which is launching in October of this year will be a 787-9, which is a smaller Long Haul aircraft. The flight from what I see is to connect 2 of the world's biggest Technology hubs, as well as offer the best connectivity for the South Indian population on the West Coast of the United States. Though the majority of the competition is lying in the Middle East and Asia with major connection hub-based airlines, the flight does have competition on another Nonstop flight. A major competing flight is the Air India flight from San Fransisco to Delhi, given it continues to Banglore and also connects tech hubs, and overall this flight is more convenient, given you connect in Seattle, leading to having a one-stop option from San Jose, a city where most tech companies have their offices are located. Overall, in my mind, this is a flight that I will probably fly on frequently in the future, as I live in Southern California, and have relatives that I frequently visit in Banglore, which leads to this flight being the most convenient option.
